Ret. Deputy Chief Ann Mannix

Deputy Chief Ann Mannix is passionate about improving relations between San Francisco’s police department and its diverse communities and sees her service on the SFPAL Board as an essential way to achieve this. “The interaction between kids and police is essential to building relationships in communities as these kids learn and grow through sports participation,” Mannix explained, adding that she encourages officers under her command to coach kids’ teams and serve as mentors.

Deputy Chief Mannix currently leads the Department’s Tactical Company and has a 27-year career with the SFPD. A fourth-generation San Franciscan, Deputy Chief Mannix grew up in the Jordan Park neighborhood and attended public schools in the Richmond District. She first learned about SFPAL playing on sports teams as a child, and later mentored a boy who played SFPAL Seahawks football.
“I value the ability to be involved and shape a young person’s life, to be a positive role model in their formative years,” Mannix said. “PAL provides an outlet for kids, the opportunity to compete in sport and learn the life skills that come along with team participation like the importance of practice, working together with others, timeliness and following rules.”

In her free time, Deputy Chief Mannix  also volunteers with the National Charity League, serves as a volunteer CYO Basketball coach, and as a member of the Ignation Guild at St. Ignatius High School.
