Basketball serves more than 60 teams of girls and boys in grades 2 through 8 with the leadership of 160 volunteer coaches. The Fall Basketball League is managed in partnership with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks department. The basketball league offers the following divisions: •
3rd–5th Grade Division
6th Grade Division*
Middle School Division (7th & 8th Grade*)
*Note: 6th grade teams can choose to play in either the 6th Grade Division or the Middle School Division.
Depending on the number of teams registered, all divisions are subdivided into playing brackets based on strength and experience. In the event that we cannot fill a bracket, we will create a mixed bracket or, in rare cases, require a team to play “up” one bracket. Teams can be all girls, all boys or co-ed. When possible we will create separate divisions for boys, girls and co-ed teams. Divisions by gender will be determined by the number of teams that sign up in each grade division. A player can play up one grade.
Playoffs: the top 4 teams in every division (including elementary) will play 2 out of 3 games/dates over this 3-day period.

If your child wants to play, but does not have a team, please register as an individual, and while we cannot guarantee placement on a team, we will make every effort to get them on a team.

Registration into the league is by team on a first-come, first-served basis, based on completed registration. In the rare case that we have too many teams and not enough gym space, all completed registration will be numbered in the order received (completed registration only) at the SFPAL office. It is in your best interest for coaches to turn in completed team registration as soon as possible. Incomplete registration will not be accepted.
